Reduction of Cost through Immediate Access to High Quality Lumify Smart Device Ultrasound

In collaboration with Philips, researchers at Scripps Translational Science Institute are conducting a study into the use of the Lumify smart device ultrasound on hospitalist smartphones and tablets. This portable ultrasound allows physicians to conduct ultrasound procedures directly at a patient’s bedside.

The objective of the study is to assess whether the use of Lumify will reduce the number of procedures requested through interventional radiology and/or reduce the number of standard radiologic ultrasounds ordered, thereby reducing costs associated with these procedures.

The study also seeks to decrease the time it takes to achieve a diagnosis, decrease the time of treatment and improve patient understanding of illness by engaging them in the procedure itself.
