Dr. Eric Topol Presented with 2011 TCT Career Achievement Award

Scripps Health’s Eric J. Topol, MD, a world-renowned cardiologist and physician-scientist, was presented the 2011 TCT Career Achievement Award in a ceremony held during the 23rd annual Transcatheter Cardiovascular Therapeutics (TCT) scientific symposium. The award is given each year to a pioneer in the field of interventional cardiovascular medicine by the Cardiovascular Research Foundation (CRF), sponsor of the TCT symposium.

The University of Michigan Medical School today announced the establishment of the Eric J. Topol Professorship in Cardiovascular Medicine.  A world-renowned cardiologist, Dr. Topol is currently chief academic officer at Scripps Health and a senior cardiologist practitioner at Scripps Clinic.

West Health Investment Fund created to lower health care costs

The co-founders of the West Wireless Health Institute announced this week a new $100 million investment fund, focusing on health care technologies, data analytics, technology-enabled services, cost transparency, and interoperability with the main goal of lowering health care costs. The fund will differ from traditional investment funds because it will not charge a management fee nor will there be carried interest, instead returns will be used to spur more medical research.

Scripps Launches Whole Genome Sequencing Study to Find Root Causes of Idiopathic Diseases

Scripps Health announced it has launched an innovative clinical research study that is using whole genome sequencing to help determine the causes of idiopathic human diseases – those serious, rare and perplexing health conditions that defy a diagnosis or are unresponsive to standard treatments.
